Sorensen picks up USMTS victory at Deer Creek Speedway
Rochester Native Banks $3,000 Featherlite Fall Jamboree Prelim
ROCHESTER, Minn. (09/30/25) – Former USMTS National Champion Dustin Sorensen made a triumphant return to his Modified roots over the weekend, charging to victory in Friday night’s preliminary feature during the Featherlite Fall Jamboree at Deer Creek Speedway aboard his Paulson Rock Products / Altenburg Construction No. 19 Longhorn Chassis by Sorensen Modified.
Sorensen, the 2022 USMTS National Champion, led the final 19 laps to secure the $3,000 win over Thursday’s winner, Joe Chisholm. The Rochester, Minnesota, native closed out the marquee three-day event with a fifth-place finish in Saturday’s $15,000-to-win finale.
“It’s always a blast to come back and race with these guys,” Sorensen said in Victory Lane. “This is where I got my start, so returning to my roots—especially at a place like Deer Creek—is always special. The track was fantastic as always, and I’m hopeful we can carry this momentum into the World of Outlaws events in Kansas next weekend. I can’t thank my sponsors enough, and I really appreciate all the incredible fans who came out to support us.”
Sorensen’s return to the United States Modified Touring Series ranks was a last-minute call after his scheduled World of Outlaws weekend in Illinois was washed out by rain. He kicked off the 27th annual Featherlite Fall Jamboree on Thursday with a solid fifth-place finish.
On Friday, Sorensen began the night with a heat race win, then powered from fifth to first in the A-Main to notch his second victory of the season. His previous win came during a Wild West Shootout preliminary back in January.
The USMTS tripleheader concluded Saturday, where Sorensen again finished fifth after rebounding from as far back as 10th early in the 50-lapper.

With Modified competition in the rear-view mirror, Sorensen now turns his attention back to the Late Model ranks as the World of Outlaws Real American Beer Late Model Series resumes action this weekend in Kansas. The doubleheader kicks off Friday at Humboldt Speedway and continues Saturday with the $20,000-to-win Ed Gressel Tribute at 81 Speedway.
